Cricket is the second most popular game on the world after football. The first cricket world cup was played in 1975.

There are twelves edition of world cup had played so far from 1975 to 2019. Single edition held every four year.

1975 cricket world cup winner and runner-up

Inaugural edition was played in England in which 8 teams participated include Australia, New Zealand, England, India, West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and East Africa.

Teams divided into two group four teams in each group. Each team playing each other in their group once; the top two from each group qualified for the semi-finals, with the winners of these matches, meeting in the final. 

Final was played between west Indies and Australia.

West Indies beat Australia by 17 runs in final.
So, West Indies is first winner and Australia is first runner-up of cricket world cup.

1979 cricket world cup winner and runner-up

Canada is a new member joined in second world cup which replaced East Africa.
West Indies and host England met in the final
West Indies became champion second time beating England by 92  runs.

1983 cricket world cup winner and runner-up

India became world champion of 1983 cricket world cup by beating mighty west Indies in the final by 43 runs.

In this short score match India set target of 184 for West Indies but India managed to stop west Indies at the score of 140 runs all-out.
This first title for India.

1987 cricket world cup winner and runner-up

1987 cricket world cup was organized by two nations India and Pakistan. Format of edition was same with only change over reduced from 60 overs to 50 overs per side.

The final was played between arch rival Australia and England at Eden garden, Kolkata in India.

Australia won a world cup first time beating England by 7 runs

The Three nation India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka together hosted 1996 cricket world cup. 12 participants divided in two, group.

Top four teams qualify for quarter final at Knock out stage.
Australia and host Sri Lanka met in the final.
Sri Lanka won title first time beating Australia by 7 wickets.

1999 cricket world cup winner and runner-up

In 1999 cricket world cup returned to England. Australia became champion second time beating Pakistan by 9 wickets in the final.

2003 cricket world cup winner and runner-up

Cricket world cup was held in Africa continent first time South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Namibia together hosted 7 TH edition of cricket world cup with 16 participants.

Australia became champion third time beating India by 125 runs.

2007  cricket world cup winner and runner-up

West Indies hosted 2007 cricket world cup first time with 16 participants divided into 4 groups 4 teams in each group.

Australia won his fourth and third in a row beating Sri Lanka by  53 runs by duck worth Luis method.

2011 cricket world cup winner and runner-up

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh together hosted 2011 cricket world cup.

Host India won his second to title beating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the final.

2015 cricket world cup winner and runner-up


Australia and New Zealand hosted 2015 cricket cup second time.
Both host Australia and New Zealand met in the final at Melbourne, in Australia.

Australia won his fifth title beating New Zealand by 9 wickets in the final.

2019 cricket world cup winner and runner-up

England and Wales together hosted 2019 cricket world cup.
Host England and New Zealand made place in the final.

England became champion of cricket world cup first time by the final by boundary count.
