Matheran
Materan is one of the smallest mountain stations in India. Located in the west of the Ghats at an altitude of about 800 meters. About 90 km from Mumbai, 120 km from Pune

Materan was identified by Hugh Pointes Mallet, a collector of Thein County in May 1850. The governor of Sir Bombay, Elphinstone, laid the cornerstone for the development of future mountainous terrain. The British developed Materan as a resort to combat the summer heat in the region. Materan is the birthplace of the free fighter Vira Bhai Kotval. He was born December 1, 1912 in the family of a hairdresser. The state government has a memorial. The Bukit Materan Railway was built by Sir Amagi Pirba in 1907 and extends 20 km from a large forest. The Bukit Math Railway, also called the Major League Baseball (Mater Light Rail), has been tested by UNESCO World Heritage Sites, but is not included in the World Heritage List. Other Indian trains, such as the Darjeeling Railway, Kangra Valley Railway, and Nilgiri Mountain Railway, are already on the list. [4]
